Buddhists stress being in the moment and treating any activity as a devotion that is its own reward rather than thinking it as a means to an end. Neuronially different people with ADHD often have deficient dopamine receptors in the PFC and so are slow to arousal and thus have extra difficulty starting and staying focused and staying on task to completion. By practicing mindfulness and consciously turning every effort into a devotion and a reward in and of itself, it makes it possible to persist in the effort without thinking about the extrinsic reward. I love swimming laps and will do many more if I don't have a present goal of how many I want to complete or even count how many I have completed; same with distance cycling on my road bike, if I don't keep track of the miles and just stay in the moment I can go much further. I also love fishing in my kayak, and only have a vague goal of catching fish, but since I can't control whether a fish is going to bite, I just stay focused on being on the water and being in nature.

Hi, yogi here lol started practicing about 15 years ago and breath work has always been a part of the practice because of the profound effect it has on relaxing and easing the body into motion..to stretch and release tension- and so in breath Work this is literally what we focus on doing ..extending the exhale.. so I’m not sure why you made that comparison and said this is not that when in fact that is what breath work teachers are teaching. Activate parasympathetic ..or down regulate
